Broken Heart

I come unto Thee
with my heart in my hands
You say unto me
my son I don't understand.

With tears in my eyes
bowed was my head
I barely choked out
the words that I dread.

This heart was a gift
from Thee unto me
it beat with a passion
but it's dead as you can see.

Where once there was life
power from on high
too soon I became careless
caused it to die.

So I come humbly before Thee
I've failed You it's true
here is Your gift
it's the least I can do.

Tears began to fall
the pain was too great
knowing I stumbled
sealing my fate.

As the tears washed across
my trembling two hands
something began to happen
I quite don't understand.

My heart began to beat
as it did once before
it grew before my eyes
and out my love poured.

He said unto me
my son let it be known
your heart was never dead
just grew hard as cold stone.

The warmth of your tears
a contrite spirit did flow
that caused your stony heart
to radiate with such glow.

So go and sin no more
you are free once at last
walk in My ways
do not turn back to your past.

Your gift has been renewed
now use it wisely my son
watching the days
until all your work has been done.

"For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones." (Isaiah 57:15)
